The maiden Noah Dallaji/Asisat Oshoala Para-soccer championship and girl football tourney kicks off on Friday (today) at the National Stadium, Lagos, The PUNCH reports.
Reigning African Women’s Footballer of The Year and Barcelona Femeni star Oshoala partnered Dallaji, founder of African Children’s Talent Discovery Foundation, to help the less-privileged and the African children through education and sports in the country.
The Para-soccer championship – a three-day event – will see four teams compete for honours at the Indoor Sports Hall of the stadium, while the girls’ tourney will feature eight teams vying for honours.
Winners of both competitions will receive cash prizes from the sponsors, our correspondent learnt.
Speaking with The PUNCH, Oshoala noted that she was inspired to partner with Dallaji because of his passion to help the needy.
“We all know I run a foundation, which has been in existence for six years now, but partnering with ACTDF brings a new dimension to the charge to further help the girlchild and other less-privilege succeed,” Oshoala said.
“Basically, the Oshoala Foundation encourages girls to go ahead with their dream of turning professionals. We’ve helped about 5,000 girls. It’s my little bit to help girls in Lagos but after my meeting with Dallaji, he has raised the bar higher by including para-athletes, which will solve a lot of problems among them.
“Dallaji has promised to donate wheelchairs to some of the para-athletes taking part at the championship, which is a great step to encourage the participants.”
